Transition Tidbits March 25, 2024

Assume I can Video

  • This is a really cool video about the power of our assumptions. It is no secret that our assumptions can have a positive or a negative impact on students. As you watch this video think about what the “Least Dangerous Assumption” might be for our students. If we assume they can do something then all of our actions will follow that assumption and we will push them to live up to that assumption. What could happen if we assume students cannot do something? How could that change our actions? What assumptions will you make about your students?

March Madness Employability Skills

  • Hopefully, someone has a bracket that is worth talking about. This activity is a nice way to engage students during March Madness tournament time. This activity gives students scenarios they need to read. After reading the scenario, they need to choose the correct employability skill related to each scenario. This is a great transition activity for so many reasons. One of which is because we know the importance of explicitly teaching vocabulary to improve students' reading ability. Doing this as a transition activity is a great way to connect our transition goals, our reading academic goals, and our specially designed instruction to improve our students' reading ability.

FAFSA

Below is a list of resources from the US Department of Education. They are all related to the FAFSA form. These can be great to engage our parents by providing them with information. These also can be great transition services/activities for our students who are seeking to attend a postsecondary institution. How would we know which students these are? Our AATA data can help identify them
