Independent Living Skills Measurement Scale

  • Here is another independent living skill measurement scale to collect data on our students. This scale is broken down into 14 goals, or skills, to be measured. The breakdown allows for teams to see particular strengths and weaknesses for a student which can lead to a very specific goal or activity for the transition plan. The best part of this scale is at the end where they have a chart that can be used to graph data. Our SWD team attended the CASE conference this fall. At many of the sessions they talked about how progress monitoring should be able to be graphed to show growth and this chart allows teams to do just that.

OCALI’s Customized Employment Guide

  • Last week we started to share resources about Guardianship and possible alternatives. Our next couple of resources will continue to align with these alternatives. This resource is from OCALI and is full of links and information to help teams as they navigate through customizing employment to meet both the student’s and employer’s needs. Each page has information, asks some reflection questions, and then has many links that allow teams to continue to pursue more information.

Hart’s Ladder of Youth Participation

  • Below is a registration link for OCALI’s Next Journey session. The session is about a Kent State Student who used Hart’s ladder to create an inclusive environment to navigate her journey to college. After seeing that session, we wanted to share Hart’s ladder with you. As children move up this ladder they assume more control or power. This is a great way to think of our students and their journey to being self-determined. This can also be used as teams discussion options such as guardianship and supported decision-making.
