Transition Tidbits May 3, 2021

Hi everyone

Below are four general links. Make sure to check out the first one for some information about summer programming in our area.

  • Help Network Summer Programming

    • This is the help network’s brochure of summer programming and respite programs in our area. Please feel free to share with families, especially those looking for some summer learning opportunities.

  • Advocating for Myself

    • This is a nice resource to help students become better self advocates. There are video examples of how to advocate and also checklists for different scenarios such as participating in your IEP meeting. There is also a “My IEP Owners Manual” which is a booklet of information that a student can create about themselves to help them be better self advocates.

  • Cooking With People With Learning Disabilities

    • Really nice resource for some independent living goal activities. This website has multiple recipes, all of which have pictures to help the students. The site also has a healthy eating healthy living pack. Here you, or the students, can access information about sugar, fats, salt, and much more. There is also a section for healthy living videos.

  • Interactive Transition Portfolio

    • This is a free, online, transition portfolio for students. The site is broken down into units. Each unit has a lesson with it that can be used by the students alone or with a facilitator. Students then can fill out the resource attached to each lesson. At the conclusion of the whole program students will have created a person centered transition portfolio. This is a great resource to differentiate as it can be self paced, done step by step with a teacher, and everything in between.
