Transition Tidbits May 10, 2021

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick note, next week will be our last Transition Tidbit for the year. It is hard to believe that the year is wrapping up so quickly but I am sure everyone is ready for summer to start. Next week we will include a tentative schedule of our Regional Transition Network Meetings as well.

  • In-Demand Jobs Week Toolkit

    • Last week was In-Demand Jobs Week. ODE released an updated toolkit as a resource for teachers to help their students explore the In-Demand Jobs in Ohio. Ohio has over 200 of these jobs which pay well and have a promising future. This toolkit has multiple documents to help embed career connections into your lessons. It also has prebuilt lesson plans that are ready to use. Finally, it is separated into 3-grade bands (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12) to help engage students of differing ages.

  • Secondary School Success Checklist

    • This website contains links to 3 different surveys to determine a student's readiness for secondary school success. The surveys are for parents, professionals, and students. The surveys are in a printable format or a fillable format to make it easier for all to fill out. The surveys will assess students in many areas including self-regulation, flexibility, self-monitoring, and more. Each survey also asks to rate the student now and also how high of a priority that skill is for the student to learn. This is a great way to not only collect data but also to ensure all team members are on the same page and have the same priorities for the student.

  • Pre-ETS- A guide for Vocational rehabilitation and educational agency partners

    • Came across this guide for vocational and educational agencies to work together as partners. There are a lot of great ideas in this guide but every vocational and educational agency partnership is different and each partnership should develop its own collaboration guide. With that said, this document does a nice job of giving a flow chart for transition services, describing the five pre-employment transition services, and even gives questions for team members to consider when developing a student’s transition plan. This guide is also full of different services or activities that can be used on a student’s IEP in their transition plan.
