Transition Tidbits October 17, 2022

Hi Everyone,

Thank you to all who were able to attend Regional Transition Network last week. We had some great discussions and as always hearing everyone's voice really helped to make the work more impactful. We linked the resources from the network below, but remember they are also located on our website under the regional transition network tab. There are some great comments on the Jamboard, please take a look and feel free to keep adding.

Competitive Integrated Employment FAQ’s

Taxonomy Connection- Student Development- Instructional Context- Education and services in LRE

  • We all know the goal for all of our students is competitive integrated employment. We talk about competitive integrated employment all the time too but how often do we think about what it really means. This document from the US Department of Education lays out some of the FAQ’s around Competitive Integrated Employment. This document is great to help build our knowledge but also can be used to engage families by building their knowledge.

Employee's Guide to Requesting Reasonable Accommodations

Taxonomy Connection- Student Development- Life, social, and emotional skills- self determination skill development

  • It is so important to build those self advocacy and self determination skills in our students. This is a great resource from JAN (Job Accommodation Network) that can be used by our students already working to assist them in asking for reasonable accommodations to complete their job. This resource can also be used in the classroom to teach these skills to our students. This is also a great opportunity for our tried and true strategy; I do, we do, you do.
