Transition Tidbits October 4, 2021

Hi Everyone

This week our first two resources align with the student-focused planning section of the Taxonomy for Transition Programming. Our last resource is a cool resource from Jodi that can help program leaders evaluate and improve their current transition program.

Career Awareness and Exploration Funds

  • House Bill 110 has established funding to be used towards career awareness and exploration in all Ohio schools. The goal is to support the implementation of a more career-focused approach to education. This link will take you to ODE’s Career Advising Policy and Student Success Plan webpage which has a really nice video of Ohio’s Career Advising overview. The document below will explain the Career Exploration and Awareness Funds in more detail as well as give some examples of how these funds can be used at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. There are also some FAQ’s on this document as well

Self Direction Toolkit

  • We know it is important to expose students to careers in a field that interests them. We also have to make sure we prepare them to be successful in whichever career they choose. One way to do this is by improving students’ ability to be self-directed in their work. This toolkit allows students to make and evaluate a plan to complete a project. This would be a great toolkit to use with any project-based learning you may do. Students can take a self-assessment (table 1.0) which can be a great piece of AATA for you to use to develop transition goals and activities.

Career Readiness Metrics Framework

  • This is a comprehensive metric that spans middle school through adulthood and provides a standard for professionals to evaluate whether learners are on track for and progressing through their career pathways. These can be used in multiple ways such as; directing learner supports and interventions, driving program change/improvements, evaluating the impact of career pathways, and much more. This document has so many data points to choose from, it may be beneficial to only pick a couple in one area to measure to have the most impact.
