Transition Tidbits October 25, 2021

Hi Everyone,

This week we are going to jump into the student development section of the Taxonomy of Transition Programming. This section is divided into 6 categories; assessment, academic skills, life, social, and emotional skills, employment and occupational skills, student supports, and instructional context. The financial planning videos will align with the life, social, and emotional skills category while the pathway to the future lesson plans will align with the academic skills section. Be sure to take a few minutes to check out all the ideas in this section of the taxonomy, there are some great ways to help prepare students for their post-secondary options.

Financial Planning Videos

  • Nice videos from The Arc about financial planning for students with disabilities. The best part of these videos are they are short and In plain language so they are easy to understand by families and students. The videos cover; Able Accounts, Special Needs Trusts, Pooled accounts, and how these accounts differ. These are great for family engagement activities or even to use to supplement instruction in the classroom.

Pathways to the Future Lesson Plans

  • Cool resource from West Virginia. This is a book of Pre-Ets lessons plans. The book is divided into 5 chapters (goals); job exploration, Work-Based Learning, Consulting on Post-Secondary Education, Workplace readiness training, and instruction in self-advocacy. This can be used by providers, teachers, and even parents. Lessons come complete with essential questions, performance tasks, vocab, key criteria, and much more. Great way to not only instruct but also to collect AATA data.
