Transition Tidbits February 7, 2022

Hi Everyone

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our networking session last week. We will be sending a summary of the meeting out later this week. Hopefully, you were able to find a resource or two that you can incorporate into your transition program. This week our tidbits are going to continue in the Student Development section of the Taxonomy of Transition Programming. Please also note two great family engagement opportunities at the bottom of our tidbits.

Leveraging Features of the PBIS Framework to Support College and Career Readiness

  • The Student Development section of the Taxonomy has a section that focuses on life, social, and emotional skills development. This resource talks about using PBIS to support the development of those important college and career readiness skills. This article has data to support implementation, strategies, outcomes, and also connections to how PBIS expectations in school can be relevant in the world of work. Make sure to see the chart of Evidence-Based Curriculum on page 8.

Daily SEL Lessons

  • This is another resource that will focus a lot on the life, social, and emotional skills development that are highlighted in activities throughout the Student Development section of the Taxonomy. This resource has lessons that focus on many SEL topics. Some examples are changing habits, self-reflection, self-esteem, and much more. Lessons contain instructions, resources, follow-up activities, and teacher tips. These can be great for any student but especially those that need to develop their SEL skills.

PEATC Life Skills Checklist

  • How will you know which skills to focus on in the Student Development section of the Taxonomy? Well, this checklist will really help IEP teams to identify those skills the student “can do already’” and the skills the student “needs ongoing support”. This checklist is simple to use and measures multiple areas such as; personal life skills, emergency safety skills, nutrition, money management, healthcare, and more. If you don’t want to assess every area and just want to narrow down a student’s skill set in an area or two, this checklist can work for that as well.

Trumbull County DD Parent Support Group

  • Our friends at Trumbull County DD will be hosting an event for parents in the county to learn more about OOD and its services. Please check out the linked document.

Charting The Life Course Family Series

  • We have discussed Charting the Life Course many times. The link above is about a 3 part series they are hosting for families who experience disabilities. Please share out with any families you think may benefit.
