Helping Youth Develop Soft Skills for Job Success

  • We all have had at least one experience where today’s workforce may have lacked soft skills. This resource discusses skills like interpersonal skills, communication, and more that help students be successful no matter what career path they are on. The resource is directed at parents and families. It certainly is great to engage your families by building their capacity, but educators can also use it when designing activities to help build a student’s soft skills. 


Job Seeker’s Guide; Self Advocacy

  • Self-determination is one of the predictors of post-school success. The more self-determination we can build in our students, the better prepared they will be for success in the future. This guide focuses on self-advocacy and is a great resource when preparing a student for person-centered planning or leading their IEP meeting. The website helps define self-advocacy, allows a student to know who is on their team, helps students build advocacy skills and so much more. 


Charting the Life Course Experiences and Questions

  • Charting the life course has so many great resources to help plan a good life for our students. This is another example. This guide has so many great pieces of information in it. One of the best starts on page 6. It starts out in infancy and asks parents rhetorical questions. The questions are meant to guide the parents to begin building skills in their children to help them be successful after school. We all know it is never too early to start thinking about transition and this document definitely proves it.
