Self Direction Rubric

  • Self-direction is very closely related to self-determination and we know just how important it is to build those skills in our students. Even though we know the importance of these skills, sometimes it is hard to incorporate them into our classes, especially in the younger grades. This rubric not only shows how these skills can be incorporated into classrooms but also has statements written in I-can terms for the students to take ownership of. Finally, the best part of this rubric is that it goes back to Kindergarten.

Student Rubric for IEP Participation

  • Another great rubric related to self-determination. One of the best ways to build self-determination skills in our students is to have them lead their IEP meetings. This rubric rates several ways that a student can participate in their IEP meeting. This rubric is a great AATA as it can show areas of strength and areas that can become transition goals and direct our transition instruction. Again these statements are also written from the student’s point of view.

Age of Majority Tip Sheet

  • As students get closer to being in charge of their IEP, it can be a confusing time for the students and families on exactly what being at the age of majority means. This tip sheet is a great parent engagement resource as it explains what the age of majority is. It also allows parents to see what types of decisions their child will be making once they reach the age of majority. This can be a great resource to send home before the student reaches the age of majority to allow families and students to come to meetings prepared to be a part of the conversation.
