Special Education Ratings
School districts are receiving their annual report on the performance of their special education programs, now known as their Special Education Ratings. As in past years, measures of procedural compliance are the basis of the 2015 ratings. Additionally, this year’s report will preview new measures of results for students with disabilities. Though the changes will not take effect until 2017, this year’s report will include both a district's actual rating (procedural compliance only) and a projected rating (a combination of two scores, procedural compliance and students’ results) to show the impact of the new measures on the district's annual rating. Required Parental Notice of Scholarship Programs for Students with Disabilities
Senate Bill 316 established a requirement related to students with disabilities effective. Per Ohio Revised Code Section 3323.052, each time a school district completes an evaluation for a child with a disability, or undertakes the development, review or revision of the child’s IEP the district shall notify the child’s parent by letter or electronic means about both the Autism Scholarship Program, under section 3310.41 of the Revised Code, and the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program, under Sections 3310.51 to 3310.64 of the Revised Code. Changes to Secondary Transition Requirements and Frequently Asked Questions
Pursuant to Senate Bill 316, all individualized education programs (IEPs) that are written after September 24, 2012, are required to address the requirements for transition services beginning no later than the first IEP to be in effect when a child is fourteen (14) years of age and updated annually thereafter.
